1. Preparation
Gather all ingredients: corn tortillas, ground beef or chicken, onion, garlic, bell pepper, tomatoes, lettuce, cheese, taco seasoning, and toppings like salsa and avocado.
Finely chop the onion, garlic, and bell pepper.
Wash and dry the lettuce, then chop it into thin strips.
Grate the cheese if using block cheese, and set aside the salsa and avocado for serving.
2. Cooking
In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat.
Add the chopped onion and bell pepper to the skillet, and sauté for about 3-4 minutes until they are softened.
Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
Add the ground beef or chicken to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook for about 5-7 minutes until browned and cooked through.
Sprinkle the taco seasoning over the meat, adding a splash of water if needed. Stir to combine and let it simmer for 2-3 minutes.
While the meat is cooking, warm the corn tortillas in a separate dry skillet over medium heat for about 30 seconds on each side or until they are pliable.
Once the meat is cooked, remove it from heat and set up a taco assembly station.
3. Assembly
Take a warmed tortilla and fill it with a generous spoonful of the seasoned meat mixture.
Top the meat with chopped lettuce, diced tomatoes, and grated cheese.
Add salsa and slices of avocado on top as desired.
Fold the sides of the tortilla and enjoy your delicious tacos.
